Here's how it works

UUmobile combines UUNET's global IP-network with the Ricochet wireless network, a system of small radio transceivers in metropolitan areas. These transceivers communicate with your computer's Ricochet wireless modem via radio frequency (RF) packets. Transceivers confirm accurate transmission by sending a brief acknowledgement to end users each time an RF packet is received. The transceivers then relay the data to Wired Access Points, where it is converted into a format that can be transmitted over UUNET's network.

Ricochet's patented mesh architecture, frequency-hopping spread spectrum technology, and authentication processes provide secure data transfer, making interception virtually impossible. UUmobile integrates seamlessly with corporate VPNs to provide the protection needed to remotely perform business critical applications.
